Jordan Christian Hamilton was born in Los Angeles, California on October 6, 1990. Before deciding to join the University of Texas Longhorns basketball team, Hamilton played basketball at the University of Miami and played professionally in Israel.

Following his senior year at Dominguez High School in Compton, Jordan Hamilton earned the rank as the No. 8 prospect nationally by ESPNU. During his high school career, Hamilton earned All-American, led his team to win the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden and led his team in rebounds during the Collision All-Stare Game at El Camino College. Jordon Hamilton attempted to play another year at Dominguez, but was denied fifth year eligibility. Due to this ineligibility, Hamilton joined the Israel team until he would begin play at the University of Texas.
