Damion Marquez Williams James is a New Mexico native and was born on October 7, 1987. Damion James graduated from Nacogdoches High School in Texas and was ranked the No. 17 prospect nationally before being picked up by the University of Texas Longhorns.
During his first year on the UT Longhorns basketball team, Damion James started all 35 games and was ranked high across the board from rebounding to number of blocks. Damion James tallied 253 rebounds his freshman year, which marked the third-highest season total by a freshman in Big 12 history. Damion James’ outstanding talent carried into his sophomore year at UT, where he earned a spot on the USBWA All-District VII Team, NABC All-District 9 Second Team, All-Big 12 Second Team, the 2008 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team and the Kansas City Star All-Big 12 Second Team.
As a junior with the Longhorns, Damion James’ talent did not fade. Along with making a few teams, such as the All-Big 12 Second Team as well as the Wooden Award Preseason top 50 list. Damion James also managed to lead his team and ranked fourth in the Big 12 for rebounding, and was second on his team for scoring. With so many achievements on the court, Damion James still managed to make the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Rolls almost every semester he has attended UT.
James has been a three-year starter who has seen time at all three frontcourt positions during his college basketball career at Texas and does not plan on changing his performance anytime soon. Damion James currently ranks 18th on the UT career scoring list and is determined to bump his way closer to the top during his last season with the Longhorns.
